WSX Calendar 2025: Big plans, many premieres – but also question marks
The WSX calendar 2025 with some surprises
The FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) has released its calendar for the 2025 season – and it's as ambitious as it is fragile. Five races on five continents are intended to give the series new relevance. However, the recent cancellation of the originally planned season opener in London once again raises questions about the stability and planning security of the World Championship.
London falls – new start in Malaysia
Just a few weeks ago, SX Global announced the start of the season with great fanfare in London – but then came the cancellationNo official reasons were given. One thing is clear: the British capital is being dropped as a venue before a single meter has been driven. Instead, the season will now begin on October 18th in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia will thus celebrate its debut on the Supercross calendar – a bold step into a still-young market.
Five stops, four premieres – a risk?
The new WSX calendar reads impressively:
- Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, October 18)
- Argentina (Buenos Aires, November 8)
- Canada (Vancouver, November 15)
- Australia (Gold Coast, November 29)
- South Africa (Cape Town, December 13)
Four of the five venues are completely new territory for the series. The question arises: Can WSX not only hold an event in all these regions, but also sustainably attract viewers and partners? Previous difficulties with ticket sales, communication, and logistics raise doubts, to say the least.
New logo, new self-image
With a new brand identity – a globe-shaped "W" – SX Global is underscoring its international credentials. But it takes more than a logo to regain trust. In recent years, the series has repeatedly struggled with last-minute cancellations, date changes, and unclear communication with fans and teams. A more professional image is long overdue.
Strong drivers – but still little planning security
WSX has certainly impressed in the past, with names like Eli Tomac and Shane McElrath. However, there is still no clear picture of which teams and drivers will be competing in 2025. So far, there have been few reliable announcements – even though the first race is just a few months away.
