Triumph will field Guillem Farrés in the MXGP in 2027

Guillem Farrés will continue to ride for Triumph Factory Racing for the next three years. The current MX2 World Championship leader will move up to MXGP in 2027, where he and Mikkel Haarup will form the British manufacturer's first official 450cc factory lineup. Camden McLellan will remain with the team and continue to compete in MX2.

Farrés has been part of Triumph's motocross project since 2025. After his first season on the TF 250-X, the Spaniard developed into a title contender in 2026 and leads the World Championship with five Grands Prix remaining. He has five GP wins and five additional overall podium finishes to his name so far.

Three more years instead of a change

The decision regarding his future was made in favor of the existing team. Farrés signed a new three-year contract and is therefore bound to Triumph until the end of 2029.

“Staying with Triumph has always been my priority,” the Spaniard explained. After two years together, the team had become much more than just his employer. Above all, the well-established routines and the trust in the people within the team influenced his decision.

Farrés has already gained some initial experience with the TF 450-X. "I've already had the opportunity to ride the 450 a bit and had a lot of fun with it." Intensive preparation for the new motorcycle will follow after the conclusion of the current MX2 season.

Farrés will become part of Triumph's first MXGP team

Triumph is officially expanding its MXGP program for the first time in 2027. After three years with the TF 250-X, the factory-backed TF 450-X will compete in the premier class.

Farrés knows that the switch requires more than just a bigger motorcycle. "It will be a big challenge and a lot of work," says the World Championship leader. The development of the 250cc bike over the past two years gives him confidence for the new project: "Together we've shown what we can achieve with the 250cc."

Team manager Vincent Bereni sees the contract extension as a logical continuation of their existing collaboration. The team knows Farrés, his work ethic, and his requirements for the motorcycle. Based on his development this season, Triumph believes he is ready to take the next step on the 450cc bike.

Haarup takes second place in the MXGP

Mikkel Haarup will occupy the second seat in the MXGP team in 2027. The Dane has been part of the Triumph program for some time and has gained experience with the manufacturer's motorcycles in both the MX2 World Championship and AMA Pro Motocross.

Triumph is thus foregoing an established MXGP rider from outside the company for its entry into the premier class. With Haarup and Farrés, the factory is relying on two riders who were already involved in the development of its own motocross program.

Team owner Thierry Chizat-Suzzoni also sees this continuity as an advantage. Farrés has developed further alongside the team over the past two years. This collaboration will now continue on the TF 450-X.

McLellan will remain in MX2 in 2027.

Camden McLellan, however, will not be switching to the 450cc class just yet. The South African will remain in the MX2 World Championship in 2027, taking over the position as the only Triumph factory rider confirmed so far.

McLellan is currently third in the World Championship standings and, together with his teammate, is making a significant contribution to the team's successful season so far. Farrés and the South African train together regularly and, despite their different skill levels, will continue to work under the same team umbrella.

This completes the confirmed roster for 2027: Farrés and Haarup will ride the TF 450-X in the MXGP, while McLellan will remain on the TF 250-X in the MX2.

Before Farrés begins his 450cc program, the most important task of his MX2 career still awaits. Five Grands Prix remain. Sweden, the Netherlands, Turkey, China, and Australia will determine whether the Spaniard enters his first MXGP season as the MX2 World Champion.
