The FIM and Infront Moto Racing have presented the provisional calendar for the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP). A total of 20 Grand Prix races are scheduled – a mix of established classics, new venues, and a thrilling overseas tour at the end of the season.
Season start with a surprise?
The official start date for February 22, 2026, has not yet been announced. However, behind closed doors, speculation is already circulating about a spectacular start in the desert state of Abu Dhabi. A top-class comeback – after all, it would be the first time that the MXGP elite competed on a track in the United Arab Emirates.
The popular South American tour in Argentina is firmly planned for March 8th, before Europe takes over: Spain (Almonte, March 22nd) and Switzerland (Frauenfeld, March 29th) will be the first two European stops.
Italian double and classics in Europe
An Italian doubleheader follows in April with Riola Sardo (April 12) and Pietramurata (April 19). After a short break, the race continues to Great Britain on May 10. Officially, the event is still "Venue TBA," but rumors are rife: Instead of Matterley Basin, which was recently firmly established on the calendar, the historic Foxhill circuit will host the British Grand Prix this time.
At the end of May, a hot phase begins with three consecutive classics: France (Lacapelle Marival, May 24), Germany (Teutschenthal, May 31), and Latvia (Kegums, June 7). This is followed by Montevarchi (Italy, June 21) and Portugal (Águeda, June 28).
Summer heat, triple header and classics on the sand
An intensive program awaits in July with three consecutive races: one race still to be decided (July 19), Loket (July 26), and Lommel (August 2). The journey then continues north to Sweden (Uddevalla, August 16) and the Netherlands (Arnhem, August 23).
Spectacular overseas final
The last three races will take place outside of Europe in September – a real test for drivers and teams:
- Türkiye (Afyonkarahisar, September 6)
- China (Shanghai, September 13)
- Australia (Darwin, September 20)
Finally, the Motocross of Nations from October 2nd to 4th in Ernée, France – a legendary venue guaranteed to give you goosebumps.
Women & Young Talent in the Spotlight
The Women's World Championship (WMX) will also be represented in 2026 with six rounds. It starts in Great Britain, passes through France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, and ends—like the men's event—with a final in Darwin, Australia.
The FIM Junior World Championship will take place on July 5th in Jinín (Czech Republic) and thus remains a central platform for the stars of tomorrow.
Officially presented, but with plenty of food for thought between the lines: The 2026 MXGP season offers not only a sporting spectacle, but also exciting organizational innovations. Abu Dhabi as a possible kick-off, Foxhill replacing Matterley Basin as the British classic – plus a mix of traditional European tracks and a tough overseas tour in September. The grand finale in Ernée promises a goosebump-inducing moment that is already fueling anticipation among fans and riders.
