The FIM Hard Enduro World Championship (HEWC) calendar for the 2026 season is being updated – and that comes as no surprise. Hard enduro remains a discipline that cannot be completely planned. Too many factors depend on local conditions, permits, and organizational processes. The series is now addressing precisely these issues by making targeted adjustments.

Abetone moves to September

The most noticeable change concerns the Italian round. The Abestone Rodeo Miravalle, originally scheduled for mid-July, has been postponed to September and will now take place from September 4th to 6th. At the same time, the event will henceforth be known as the "Abestone Hard Enduro".

The location itself remains unchanged. The race will continue to be held in Abetone, Tuscany – a region that has established itself as a reliable fixture on the calendar in recent years. The organization, course characteristics, and basic concept will remain the same.

The postponement is primarily a reaction to the tight schedule in the summer. The new date gives the event more flexibility – both in terms of preparation and on-site execution.

Genoa is dropped from the calendar

The cancellation of the Wildwoods Extreme in Genoa is significantly more impactful. The race, which was originally scheduled for mid-September, will not take place in 2026.

Officially, the reasons are outside the control of the organizers and promoters. No further details are given – however, this is not an unusual situation in hard enduro. Events are often heavily dependent on regional conditions, which can change at short notice.

Importantly, the connection to the organizing team in Genoa remains. A return of the event for 2027 is already being considered.

Fewer races, clearer structure

The changes mean the calendar loses a loop and is simultaneously reordered. On paper, this means fewer races. In practice, it's more about stability.

Hard enduro operates differently than classic circuit racing series. The quality of an event depends heavily on the track, the organization, and the local conditions. A tight calendar increases the pressure – for organizers, teams, and riders alike.

The relocation of Abetone and the elimination of Genoa will reduce precisely this pressure.

Flexibility remains part of the system

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FCI) continues to pursue its approach with the HEWC, adjusting the calendar as needed. This is not a sign of uncertainty, but rather part of the structure of this series.

Not every event can be secured long-term. Not every route can be prepared under identical conditions. That's precisely why postponing dates or suspending events when necessary is part of the process.

A realistic look at 2026

The result is a calendar that is somewhat leaner but appears more clearly planned. Abetone remains in the program and will be scheduled for a later date; Genoa is temporarily dropped but is expected to return.

From a sporting perspective, little changes to the series' fundamental principles. The races remain challenging, and the tracks demand a lot from both drivers and their equipment. The adjustments primarily concern the organizational aspects behind the scenes.

For 2026, this means: less movement on paper – but more stable framework conditions for the events that actually take place.
